The Ophthalmology Centre at the Solingen Hospital offers a full range of eye care procedures, the centre specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases from children to adults.
The Ophthalmology Centre is a partner of the Akademie Hospital Solingen. The head of the centre, Kadir Koçadağ and Harun Akgül, MD, have extensive experience and extensive training in conservative and surgical eye care at the renowned
university eye clinics in Heidelberg and Essen. Doctor Koçadağ is a leading specialist and is widely known both in Germany and in European countries. The Ophthalmology Centre uses only advanced treatment methods with state-of-the-art

Work Experience:
Kadir Kocadag, MD was born in Gelsenkirchen and completed his medical studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. He started his career as a specialist physician
at the University Hospital Essen. As a leading physician, he worked in the Department of Macula, Retina and Tumours at the University Hospital Essen. Until 2015, he worked as a leading consulting physician at the St. Elisabeth Hospital
in Essen.
Dr Kocadag brilliantly defended his thesis on “Episcleral venous pressure in patients with endocrine orbitopathy in the anterior eye”. Dr Kocadag regularly gives numerous papers and presentations at renowned national congresses and
continuing education courses. Since 2015, he has been working at the Eye Disease Centre at the Academic Hospital Solingen.

Treatment of macular degeneration
- Early stages – regular monitoring and lifestyle adjustments may be recommended to slow the progression of the disease.
- Late stages – drug therapy such as intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF drugs.
- Laser treatment or photodynamic therapy.
- Rehabilitation techniques such as low vision aids and visual training sessions
Cataract treatment
- Surgical removal of the clouded lens.
- Replacement with a clear artificial lens
- Phacoemulsification – the lens is removed by ultrasonic fragmentation.
