Professor Standl started his career as a doctor in the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, after which he trained in intensive care at the Bundeswehr Hospital Hamburg-Wandsbeck. From 1987 to 2004 he worked at the Clinic and Polyclinic of Anaesthesiology at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, where he held senior positions and obtained a doctorate in anaesthesiology and a brilliant PhD in the field of artificial oxygen carriers and tissue oxygenation.
In addition to his work in the university environment, Professor Standl is actively involved in medical associations and societies around the world. He has been a visiting professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and has held leadership positions in medical associations, including chairmanship of the Hamburg Medical Association and first vice-chairmanship of the Hamburg Regional Association of the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine.
Since 2004, Professor Standl has been Chief Physician of the Clinic for Anaesthesia, Operative Intensive Care and Palliative Medicine at the Solingen City Hospital. Since spring 2018, he has been simultaneously acting as medical director and medical director.
Professor Standl also holds important positions in government and medical organisations, including deputy state chairman of various associations. Since 2011, he has been a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne, which clearly confirms his importance and standing in the academic community.
Professor Standl continues to actively research and develop cutting-edge methods in his field, making a significant contribution to medical practice and the education of a new generation of specialists. His work and contribution to medicine is recognised in both the scientific and clinical communities, making him one of the leading specialists in Germany and beyond.
