WE CARE ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH
Pediatric Department of the City Hospital in Solingen produces the following examinations:
Respiratory test for lactose or fructose intolerance
On the test, the child must come on an empty stomach, which means that in the morning, food, drinking, brushing teeth, chewing gum, sweets should be excluded.
The examination lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Before the examination, the child takes the special solution with lactose (milk sugar) or fructose (fruit sugar). Then a respiratory test is performed. For the test, blood sampling is not required.
This test can be performed in newborns and infants. Before and during the test, the child should neither eat nor drink. After the test, you will immediately be given the result and will be given a letter for the pediatrician. The examination is done on an outpatient basis. For each test, you need to have a referral.
Pediatric cardiologic examination
The examination is performed on an outpatient basis; it usually includes measuring blood pressure on the hands and feet, measuring the saturation of blood with oxygen, physical examination and ultrasound examination of the heart. If necessary, an electrocardiogram is recorded, an ECG is performed under load, Holter monitoring or a 24-hour blood pressure measurement. Examination is possible if there is a referral.
Consultation for patients with mucoviscidosis (cystic fibrosis)
As a rule, the examination is conducted in the special outpatient department every 2-3 months. After a narrowly focused collection of anamnesis (finding out the previous course of the disease), a physical examination is conducted, with special attention to the specific signs of the disease. If possible, physical examination is combined with measurement of lung function (spirometry). In most cases, the necessary blood tests are performed at large intervals to determine the signs of acute or chronic inflammation, organ damage, lack of fat-soluble vitamins or the presence of specific antibodies. Once a year, it is necessary to perform an analysis for sugar (oral glucose tolerance test). The examination is conducted on the outpatient basis in private practice rooms on the 7th floor of the building. The consultation lasts 30-60 minutes. The examination is possible only if there is a referral. These examinations are sent to the pediatrician.
The examination requires hospitalization for one day before. The child should arrive at the clinic on an empty stomach. The measuring probe is inserted through the nose and placed in the esophagus at the small distance from the stomach. The location is controlled by X-ray. Next, for 24 hours, the acidity level at the two measurement points is recorded. After checking the correct position of the probe, food intake is possible. The examination requires a referral.
Ultrasound diagnostics (ultrasound examination)
Examination is possible only if there is a referral. The following types of ultrasound are offered:
- Ultrasound examination of the skull (in newborns and infants);
- Ultrasound examination of the kidneys and bladder;
- Ultrasound examination of the hip joints (in newborns and infants);
- Ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs;
- And (for certain indications) and other organs (for example, bones, spine).
Electroencephalography and EEG of sleep
For a conventional EEG, a referral is necessary. The examination is carried out on the outpatient basis. For examination, the child should be able to lie down for a while. In extreme cases, you need the sedative syrup. These examinations are sent to the pediatrician.
Children who need the sedative syrup should have a referral. The child should arrive on the day of the examination in the Outpatient Pediatric Department. Here they will get a syrup with a sedative. When they fall asleep, they will be taken to the office, where they will be led by the EEG. After the examination, your child will sleep with us, then they can return home. These examinations are sent to the pediatrician.
Sweat test (iontophoresis with pilocarpine, a test for cystic fibrosis)
The examination is carried out on the outpatient basis. The examination itself lasts about half an hour; the concentration of chloride ions in sweat is measured. Blood sampling is not performed. Examination is possible only if there is a referral. The result of the examination is sent to the pediatrician.
Before EEG of the sleep, a child is deprived of sleep for several hours. If possible, the EEG is prescribed at 8 am, when the child is asleep or sleepy. In this case, impairments are identified better. This preparation can be done at home or in the Clinic.
MRI and CT (magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography)
In older children, who can lie quietly during the examination, it is possible to conduct the test on the outpatient basis. For both examinations, it is necessary to have a referral and cover costs of medical insurance. Informing about the examination and signing of the agreement is performed in the Department of Radiology. MRI lasts about 30 minutes, and CT, depending on the organ being examined, is only a few minutes. After the examination, the child can return home. The result of the examination is sent to the pediatrician.
Children who, because of fear, cannot lie still, are put into the state of deep sleep (sedation). In this case, the child is injected into the bloodstream so that he can sleep peacefully during the procedure. This requires a hospital stay in the Clinic. In addition to the above explanations and agreements with accompanying adults about the tomography itself, it should also be conducted in connection with sedation. This happens in advance at the admission in the outpatient department.
After consulting with the doctor on duty, your child stays overnight in the hospital or comes on an empty stomach in the morning of the examination in the Pediatric Department. “An empty stomach” means that a child cannot eat or drink 4-6 hours before that. When the child after examination sleeps and will be sufficiently alert, it can be written out. The extent to which the child is alert after the examination is controlled by the pediatrician of the department. The results of the examination are sent to the pediatrician.
Decoding of monitoring (home follow-up)
This requires a referral. The examination is performed on the outpatient basis. Please, bring the results of the follow-up together with all accessories, as well as the business card of the person who carried out the examination. The results of the follow-up will be examined in the Outpatient Pediatric Department, the decoding time depends on the frequency of the disorders. After that, the child can return home with the monitor. Evaluation and results of the examination are sent to the pediatrician.
OAE (otoacoustic emission) and BERA (computer-assisted brainstem audiometry) – hearing tests
This examination is intended for those newborns whose hearing test was impossible for any reason during their stay in the Maternity Department of the Clinic.
Scintigraphy of the kidneys
For examination, it is necessary to have a referral and confirmation of coverage of expenses by medical insurance. Information on expenses can be obtained in advance, the agreement must be held on the day of admission in order to undergo the examination. Newborns and infants are hospitalized the day before the examination, they are given an infusion. This achieves sufficient saturation of the kidneys with liquid. On the day of the examination, the child is delivered to the department of radiation medicine. There is an intravenous injection of a substance that accumulates in the kidneys, which is subsequently removed. A special camera captures this process. If the child has received a sedative, then they can sleep in the ward before leaving the Clinic. Pediatricians, along with examination data, send recommendations from pediatricians and urologists.
MCU (micturating cystourethrography)
For examination, it is necessary to have a referral and confirmation of coverage of expenses by medical insurance. Information on expenses can be obtained in advance by contacting the International Patients Department; confirmation should be conducted on the day of admission before the examination. The child is hospitalized and examined the day before the examination. The pediatrician advises parents about the forthcoming examination, an informed agreement is signed. On the day of the examination the baby takes the juice with a sedative, then the catheter is inserted into the bladder. With the help of fluoroscopy, it is determined how the contrast medium is distributed, and whether there is a possibility that the urine gets back into the kidneys. When a child sleeps, if other surveys are not planned, they can leave the clinic on the same day. The results of the examination along with the recommendations of urologists are sent to the pediatrician.
Examination in the somnological laboratory
For examination, it is necessary to have a referral. The examination is conducted only on Fridays. You come on the evening of the examination at 7:30 pm for an appointment with the outpatient Department of Pediatric and Juvenile Medicine. The section for parents and the examined child is placed in a special room. Before the child falls asleep, monitoring devices are installed to monitor the cardiac and respiratory activities. The medical staff monitors the curves on the monitors in the next room. The next morning, after breakfast, the accompanying person with the child can leave the clinic. The results are sent to the pediatrician.
Gastroscopy, colonoscopy, rectoscopy (examination of the stomach, intestines and rectum)
For examination, it is necessary to have a referral and confirmation of coverage of expenses by medical insurance. The examination is conducted by colleagues from the department of gastroenterology. The necessary sedation is performed by a pediatrician. Both for examination and for analgesia, consultation is needed with an explanation of the procedures being implemented and the signing of informed consent the day before.
Conducting colonoscopy is possible only after sufficient cleansing of the intestine. This requires an inpatient stay. A special diet is prescribed, a laxative agent and an enema. The examination is conducted in the state of deep sleep (analgosedation). In some cases, samples for histology are taken, this examination takes some time. Pre-examination report is given to parents after the examination, the final report is sent to the pediatrician or other specialists. After the child sleeps and is sufficiently alert, they can be discharged home, as a rule, on the same day.
Hospitalization to clarify the symptoms of the disease:
For inpatient examinations, it is always necessary to have a referral. We ask you to bring the results of previous examinations (if available). During the examination, the child is constantly in the Pediatric Department.
Emergency medical care is provided 24 hours a day on any day of the week, including public holidays.
